What else do we do at The Barnyard Shoppe?

Although miniature architecture is the mainstay at the Barnyard Shoppe of Amos D. Bugg, Barbara also creates functional CATCHALLS, KEEPERS AND BOXES in a variety of sizes, all designed in her distinctive primitive folk-art style with distressed aged painted finishes and simple hand-painted (never stenciled!) classic decorative designs.

BIRDHOUSES built at The Barnyard Shoppe are certainly decorative, but they are also always ornithologically correct and are meant to be put to good use as housing for our feathered friends. Some are patterned after regular structures in the Country Heritage Collection, but occasionally special “found objects” become the focal point of completely unique offerings. And we offer a collection of rustic, primitive birdhouses specially designed for the country garden.

Old-fashioned wooden GAMEBOARDS recalling days gone by are also a feature at the workshop and can actually be used for family fun as well as for their striking graphic appeal. Barbara works through many steps to create aged, timeworn hand-painted surfaces on the finished boards which make them highly prized by collectors of reproduction pieces and contemporary folk art.

Our ever-expanding collection of SIGNS are both functional and fun. They are hand-lettered and hand-painted on pine with a distressed finish that suggests years of use. Most signs are framed but the special group designed primarily for yard and garden use are not. We gladly create custom signs upon request.

And, if the winter has been too cold to work in the barn, we spend the season inside carving primitive SANTAS.
