Greetings! My name is Julien McCarthy.

I create turned wooden objects which incorporate nutshell segments. I originated this unique process that uses the natural filigree found in cross sections of locally indigenous tree nuts to produce fine decorations in bowls, plates, trays and other useful turnings.

As I hike and bike in the wilderness, I find nuts such as Walnuts and Butternuts — the source for my raw materials. I glean wood from clearings at construction sites and from storm-damaged trees. You'll find woods such as Maple, Magnolia, Walnut, and Tulip Tree in my work.

For each piece I create, I do all the development from the collection of raw materials to the finished product. My final finishes are food safe — no stains or artificial colorings are used. On the bottom of each piece I inscribe the date, materials used, my logo and my signature.
